’Living Color’, the latest release from Washington D.C.’s Dura, is a two-part improvisational guitar piece that was recorded live at Brooklyn Fireproof in 2013. Built on a base of warm, evocative guitar textures, the piece leads the listener on a blissful journey of tidal looped tones, giving structure and support to improvisation and experimentation. While both parts begin with a simple modulating drone, Dura ventures effortlessly through states of ease, excitement, and ecstasy, building a web of spindled sound that slowly envelops the listener. It’s there, within the colorful confines of ‘Living Color’, that Dura finds form in airy nuances and concrete definitions. Mastered by Rafael Anton Irisarri, the veteran ambient producer and engineer, ‘Living Color’ is a fully realized concept, occupying a space somewhere between supreme concentration and sublime unconsciousness.
